nadNavillus, Matt Christensen, The Lost Year

Equal parts guitar and vocal driven, sonically and structurally diverse, nadNavillus is the music of Dan Sullivan. A Chicago resident since the late 90s, Sullivan has recorded with Glen Hansard and Jason Molina, including on the latter’s seminal “Magnolia Electric Company”, as well as releasing 4 full-length LPs with long-running Art-Metal ensemble Arriver.Matt Christensen is a Chicago-based musician who has played in the band Zelienople for over 20 years.Emerging from Chicago’s vibrant musical landscape, The Lost Year is a compelling force in the indie rock genre. With their distinct blend of introspective lyricism, dreamy melodies, and subdued (but at times explosive) energy, this four-piece band captivates audiences with their authentic sound and impassioned performances.

Oddysseys, Linneas Garden, Hell Trash

Linnea’s Garden plays glam punk rock you can dance to. Imagine the angular guitars of Television, primal bass lines of The Clash, danceworthy grooves of Blondie, and otherworldly songwriting and stage show of David Bowie, fronted by a queer singer/songwriter/scientist. Loud, shiny and full of distortion: they do it cuz they like to do it. They say the things people are afraid to say. Linnea’s Garden is currently touring in support of their new single, “Chaotic Bisexual Summer,” which comes out June 14, 2024.There’s no such thing as taking it easy when it comes to Oddysseys. The Chicago-based trio has always operated under a strong DIY ethos and work ethic. The band has forged their own organic growth in the underground music scene, leaving their impression on basements, warehouses, and legendary venues across the U.S. and Canada, offering dynamic performances that take their audience on a journey through a sonically diverse discography – leaving plenty of room for moshers, dancers, and arm-crossers alike.Hell Trash: Formerly Philadelphia, now Chicago. Four absolute sickos out to lunch.

High On Stress, Matt Derda & The High Watts

High on Stress has released 5 studio albums including their critically acclaimed new album “Hold Me In.”  All those chunky guitar riffs, pedal steel nirvana moments, two-part harmonies and snare drum synergy push Leet’s plaintive cry and yearning songwriter soul to beautiful heights that shouldn’t be missed or forgotten by lovers of heartfelt classic alt-country. Matt Derda & The High Watts, a Folk Rock group from the Chicago area, combines storytelling with resonant melodies. Blending Rock N Roll riffs with Eastern Kentucky roots, they’ve created a unique sound that captures the essence of Johnny Cash’s Nashville and the grit of rock acts like The Replacements.

Piraguas Y Piropos, Rosalba Valdez, Emil Rojo Band

Marcos and Jose created Piraguas y Piropos in 2021 after performing in duets in Chicago for about 5 years. Piraguas y Piropos came from an absence in musical representation locally to have an ensemble that actively performs Jibaro Music (also known as Puerto Rican Folkloric Traditional Music) in Chicago. Outside of its presence in mainland Puerto Rico, the music we play is not only an act of performance but an essential piece of keeping alive a severely underrepresented form of music. Both musicians were raised and taught in the Puerto Rican tradition with an ample background studying and performing jazz to incorporate elements of jazz into Jibaro music without losing the essence of it. A lot of Jibaro music has a classical music background but also offers the flavor and syncopations of the Caribbean, bringing a dance element that makes it well received by a large audience. We’ve landed on a format that allows us to revere our origins while incorporating an openness to improvise in a way that keeps it fresh every time it is performed.
