"Since 2020, Future Bartenderz have released twenty-one albums of songs that tend to both mock and celebrate and eschew (yes, eschew) genres of all kinds, creating music that often defies lazy categorization. It's the low-low-fi solo project of Brian Costello of Orlando, Florida, who once lived in Chicago, Illinois and was active in the garagepunk scene there in bands like Functional Blackouts, Johnny and the Limelites, and Outer Minds, while also doing comedy shows (Shame That Tune, The Brian Costello Show with Brian Costello), writing novels (Losing in Gainesvllle), and contributing to the Chicago Reader's music section. While the FBz are rooted in this background, Costello has taken full advantage of the freedom of a one-man project. Besides musical parodies of, among others, Bob Dylan, Thin Lizzy, Steely Dan, The Band, and OMD, there are also plenty of knowing nods to The Kinks, Minutemen, ESG, Can, Tubeway Army, Black Randy and the Metrosquad, Buzzcocks, and many, many other groups. It's prolific and not that serious, except when it is, but even then, it's not that serious, but it is serious. " --Rollie St. Bacon, The New England Journal of My Ass
