When her band TÜLIPS went out with a bang at their final headline show at The Regent Theater in 2016, Kali went solo, touring the country with Ex Hex, Alice Bag, & Seth Bogart. “Soul Songs” was the debut 2018 EP produced by Kristin Kontrol (Dum Dum Girls) & mixed by Brad Laner (Medicine). Recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, it received praise from Pitchfork, Stereogum, BUST, & L.A. Weekly.
Taleen Kali’s first full-length “Flower Of Life” came out in 2023 on Dum Dum Records. It was produced by The Smashing Pumpkins’ Jeff Schroeder & Josiah Mazzaschi (Child Seat, Bizou, Light FM), & recorded at The Cave, home to albums by The Jesus and Mary Chain, IDLES, & members of Slowdive, The Smiths, Lush, The Kills, & Warpaint.
The title track debuted as the LP’s 1st single on KEXP & the final single “Crusher” premiered on KCRW with heavy airplay by Henry Rollins. The band played 2 full U.S. tours to support the album.
In 2024 Taleen Kali released the “Flower of Death” remixes & was invited on tour w/ Ringo Deathstarr. “Covered” EP is out Valentine’s Day 2025 ahead of their 3rd U.S. tour.
Creating songs that dives into gloomy, dancey rhythms, haunting melodies, and driving a powerful force of goth post-punk roots.
The lineup has shifted over the years—originally female-fronted—but the heart of the band has stayed strong, driven by a shared instinct for texture, volume, and melody. Through it all, Lightfoils have delivered a consistent run of lush, loud, emotionally resonant releases that have earned them both critical recognition and a devoted following.
In 2023, the band entered its current phase, with Osborne stepping into lead vocals and longtime collaborator Balthazar de Ley (Hum, Menthol) joining on guitar. After a brief pause to recalibrate, Lightfoils returned to the stage and studio—refocused, recharged, and louder than ever.
Catch them live and you’ll understand why they’ve become known—and proudly championed—as elder statesmen of the scene.
